There's a lot of luck involved in winning a World Series. There is less luck involved in winning 7 straight NL West titles.
But "smart organizations" and "owners" are the same thing, deep pockets or not. The Dodgers were bad when they had bad owners. The Angels' current owner has never been good. Mets could become good with a new owner but it will take a while, especially with the Wilpons still in charge for a while.
Jury's out on our guy, since he's sort of old and but sort of new (I believe the Who have a lyric about that). The fact that he's rich doesn't actually make him different from the previous regime because we were already a high payroll team in the CBP era. Busting the luxury tax would be the one thing that would make him different from the Giles/Monty regimes. So far his hiring/baseball acumen does not. His hands-on approach does but I'd say the jury's out on that too.
