Well that was fun while it lasted. In all honesty glad we aren’t giving up 3 top 10 prospects and a MLB contributer. I just hope we can entice some big offensive firepower in the offseason. We don’t have enough right now and really don’t have any coming up through the farm.

I’ll be honest, I don’t see much help offensively out there. Moustakas is no better than Franco. Beltre doesn’t want to move. Merrifield may very well cost us more than Machado and his value is at positions we are either already good at (2B, CF), a position we refuse to replace our sub .650 batter at (SS), or a position with a young improving player (RF). There just doesn’t seem to be a ton of offensive talent being dangled out there and that is what we really need.

Yeah, not getting Machado will definitely be a comedown but I too would be glad if we didn't give away the pharm.

It does crack me up that they are waiting until after the All Star game. I assume this is MLB putting its force into "you can't mess with the All Star game". Do they think Baseball fans would care if a guy was suddenly traded before? Let him play for the AL and where and Os uniform, who cares? Orioles fans know he is gone, so whether it is announced ahead of time or not I doubt they care. As far as I am concerned having a guy on the "wrong" team might actually (for 1 second) make the game interesting.

Ohh, sorry, I forgot, now the game "counts" for WS home field advantage. How someone in Baseball didnt assassinate Bud Selig is a mystery to me.

As Patch mentioned, there really is not any major offensive help out there other than Machado. I don't see Moose as much of an upgrade on Franco. And even in the off season, other than Machado and Harper, there is not a lot of serious offensive talent that is going to be available. As for waiting on our prospects, other than Green, we do not have any guys who look like they could be big offensive impact guys close to MLB ready.

As of last year, thankfully, it does not count for WS HFA anymore.

There are other ways of doing what we need. Trading prospects for other prospects in areas of need or for ML talent. We still have options.

Heyman says that the Dodgers are indeed willing to include Diaz, but also need to send salary back (maybe Forsythe) in the return to Baltimore.

What is really exciting is that the Phillies could trade some "prospects" and still be pretty deep. Just looking at the top 30: Medina, Moniak, Gamboa and Brito are all in the top 10. De Los Santos, Eshelman, Anderson are 11, 12 and 21. Throw in Randolph, Cozens and Gomez, to. I don't see to many teams having an interest in Walding, Altherr or Rios who are on the 40-man, but who knows.
If not Machado, there are other smaller trades who can be an instant upgrade to the bench or bullpen available.

I have so many mixed emotions. When it was said we were the favorite and may have an agreement involving Medina, Hasley, Franco, and Gamboa - I was angry with how much we had to give up. Now that it looks like the Dodgers are going to get him, I’m angry that we aren’t. Emotions of a fan around the trade deadline!

Now we just have to hope there isn’t an extension already in place. We can win a FA battle for him.

BTW, I have come to hate the Dodgers (maybe I’m envious). They seem to have an endless supply of money and talent to do whatever they want every offseason and trade deadline. Extremely aggravating!

You are counting on Cozens, Randolph and Moniak as legit prospects with MLB potential ?????? David please give some examples of those "smaller trades" because if you are counting on the likes of Cozens, Randolph and Moniak to bolster our MLB roster, we better get busy with the trades.

That trade could make the Dodgers almost unbeatable for years to come with Saeger at SS and Manny at 3rd. Then there are Bellanger, Muncy, Pederson, etc. Dodgers are getting dangerously deep.

Also I honestly hope we kind of stay put at this point. Without a big offensive upgrade I don’t want to trade talent from our system. Wait till the offseason and try to sing Machado or Harper. Let our team play it out this year and see if we can sneak in.

I think you will see Manny sign a huge extension with the Dodgers before UFA season even starts. The Dodgers will not be thinking of him as a "rental".
