Go to the post you want to quote from. Select/highlight the portion of the post you want to quote. This should generate a grey "Quote" button above the words you highlighted. Buster Posey to Have Season-Ending Hip Surgery

Apparently, this is why his power numbers have been trending down the past few years. The estimated recovery time is 6-8 months, so hopefully he’ll be back by Opening Day. I’ve always liked Posey despite his playing for the Giants, as he’s not only a great player but also one of the nicest guys in the game.

Posey’s actually a better hitter when he plays 1B, so that’s probably where he’ll end up. Assuming he’s healthy at the start of next season, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants try to trade him, as they need to rebuild. They’re making a lot of the same mistakes the Phillies made earlier in the decade, trying to recapture the glory of past seasons by committing money to players who can’t stay healthy.

Some are saying that Joey Bart, the #2 selection in this year's draft, might be their catcher next season. That's a big jump. Who knows, maybe they'll make a play for Ramos?

The Giants are clearly in a bad spot, with an aging team and a weak farm system. Brian Sabean has never presided over an active rebuild, though, where he traded veterans for prospects, so they may just ride out the current contracts for the time being. When the Bonds-era Giants got old and bad, SF had 4 losing seasons in a row (2005-2008), but Sabean was trying to win the whole time, signing FAs like Zito and Rowand. They hit a few home runs with the resulting high draft picks (and some doubles with slightly later picks), which gave rise to the Posey-era Giants. I'm not sure they have much to trade anyway. Injury-prone guys like Posey and Bumgarner aren't going to bring back a huge haul at this point, though a healthy Bumgarner could be a valuable trade piece at the 2019 deadline. Belt and Crawford are still solid players, but they're getting relatively old and expensive at this point.

Reds/Brewers game was crazy last night. But one call really puzzled me. Looks like Reds' pitcher Michael Lorenzen struck out on a bunted foul ball. But, seems that the umps ruled that since he was trying to get out of the way of the pitch, it wasn't a foul?

Sure enough, he homers on the next pitch:

I watched the replay and I agree with the call. IMO once he pulls the bat back he is no longer bunting and it becomes a foul ball just as if he swung at the pitch.

Agree. He prepared to bunt, but he didn't bunt at the ball. It's a foul, call was right.

Shohei Ohtani will need Tommy John surgery, though he goes out and hits two homeruns in his next game. Once again, the rest and hope it goes away plan does not work. Some say he may be able to play next year as DH while his elbow recovers.

Catching the Twins tonight, including old friends Willians Astudillo and Trevor May.

Willians does have a hilarious stature...makes Carlos Ruiz look like a Greek god. Fire hydrant doesn’t begin to do it justice...he’s just short and pudgy. Hacking at everything as always...blooped in a hit, has had a nice 80 ABs but backup catcher at best, though that’s a career to be proud of given what was predicted.

I don’t have a great vantage point to judge May’s arsenal, though in relief it includes a 95mph fastball, 87 mph change and a slider and a curve. Gave up a HR to the first batter on a straight fastball middle-middle.

Clay Bucholz season is over- after posting a 7-2 record and 2.01 era...holy crow, when and how did that happen?!

For all we know he would have pitched that well if he'd stayed healthy. Now, in any case, he's just as good for them as he was for us.

Absolutely, good acquisitions, just bad luck two years in a row with Morton first, then Buchholz.

True but the comparison ends there. Morton is in line for a very big payday this winter. Buchholz is probably hoping to catch on with someone again.
