Watching the Rockets-Warriors game. Y'know, Morey's been the Rockets' GM for 12 years without winning anything. He's even survived an ownership change and is on his third coach. That's also where we got Hinkie from. And of course, Brown came from the Spurs, which has had the same coach or GM, with some change in hierarchy, for more than 20 years. Philly's a different market with a different fan base and to me the Sixers already blew it when they let the NBA and Colangelo get involved, but I think stability still leads to more success than wildly chasing it (see also, Oklahoma City, which has had the same GM for 12 years. That would never be the case in an East Coast market but the less conservative/patient approach hasn't gotten anybody any titles. Except with LeBron).

If there is a roster shake-up it will be that they only sign one of the two players, Butler or Harris and that would cause them to go out and find another piece. You may see Redick go as well. The core of this team is still very young and very talented to to play the mythology Harris has paid the money and needs results forgets that 3 seasons ago they won 24 games. This is the second year of winning and if the clock is running out then we have the wrong timekeeper.

This huge investment in money was made about 25 games ago. Let's not try to paint a picture where this is some floundering organization that hasn't been able to make it work for a long time.

Brett Brown isn't going to get fired...if he did I wouldn't be upset about it but he's won over 100 games the last two seasons. He'll get another year and possibly get some missing pieces.

That all makes sense, but man, I don't see that a roster shake-up and a new coach would actually get them closer. Unless of course they somehow go after and get one of the big names, but that wouldn't be blowing it up, that would just be getting better.

The "different direction" Harris would IMO consider more would be going after one of the big name (KD etc.) FA after letting some group of Butler, Harris, Redick et al. go to keep the roster cost somewhat even.

I do not see him blowing up the roster i.e. moving Simmons or Embiid unless there are things behind the scenes we do not know about.

The decision on Brown is in the balance IMO. I think Harris was serious with his shot across the bow, but hopefully cooler heads will prevail and Brown will be given more time. I think you'd see serious rumbles from Embiid and Simmons if Brown is fired and it could impact their own decisions about staying here long term.

I see Simmons as likely to not re-sign here already; I think he wants to play elsewhere. Embiid I believe loves it here and would stay unless the whole thing caves in. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I think I'd sign Butler over Tobias Harris and I do think that the team needs to begin seriously evaluating whether keeping Simmons, absent any changes to his game, is in the best interests of the team. A big 3 of Embiid, Butler, and KD would be interesting.

There’s a reason why the Sixers went out and traded for Butler and Harris this season. As physically gifted as Embiid and Simmons are, they both have a variety of limitations that only become more pronounced come the postseason. First and foremost, they are in their second and third years in the league, and if they were to somehow lead the Sixers to the Finals this season, it would border on unprecedented. Durant/Westbrook, Curry/Thompson, James/Irving -- none of them accomplished what a lot of people are expecting out of Simmons and Embiid.

Butler and Harris were brought here to fill in those gaps. Butler has more than done his part thus far. What the Sixers really need is for Harris to start knocking down some of the open looks he keeps getting.

Sixers look awful so far... doesn't look good. Embiid has been a turnover machine so far, I know he is sick, but he looks like a non-factor so far.

If a Ben Simmons for Anthony Davis trade is still a possibility, I do it. If that can happen, I let Harris walk, sign Butler, see if they can also sign Russell

That doesn't seem like a controversial idea. Especially if you don't think Simmons is sticking around anyway. If he really doesn't want to be here (and I don't know if that's true, not to mention there was his family history with Brown) and they aren't sure they want him nothing is off the table.

But we really do have insane expectations of the guy. Yeah, ROY and All-Star, but how many other top 3 picks from the last four draft classes have actually done anything in the playoffs yet? (Never mind that a lot of them were Sixers). How good was Russell after two years?

Funny how similiar the two games were tonight. Both teams seemed evenly matched, even favoring the lower seed through 3 games, and now it's basically chalk. If Embiid can't shake this flu or whatever they certainly can't win Game 7, let alone Game 6.

Stick the fork in. it would be an unbelievable task to beat the Raptors 2 games in a row. it can be done, but unless the sickness quickly goes and some other performances pick up, they're done. another year of experience under their belts and come back strong next year. would love to see it, though.

They did win two in a row already against Toronto in this series - Games 2 and 3. That being said, it would be a tall order.

I'm not sure I trade Simmons for Davis with Embiid on the team.

Trading Simmons is a tall order since you'd need a team willing to trade a few key pieces to get it done...

I kinda feel like I'm "in for a penny, in for a pound" with the current configuration. I'd max Jimmy and Tobias if I have to (neither is worth it but its just money. And if you don't spend it on them you can't spend it on anyone else so who cares?) Maybe they play together better after a year of playing together. I don't know. That was a putrid performance last night. And frankly I'm tired of this team's constant upper respiratory issues and gastro-intestinal issues.

Is he worth the offer as compared to the Cap room? I'm unsure. I am not unsure on Butler. I'd give him the max.

I think the samples are too small on both of these guys. Butler's talent is unquestionable and he's certainly shown the leadership and heart too. But the potential questions are still there as well. And Harris is better than he's shown. Seems to me two months ago there was even a case for preferring him over Butler if you didn't take both.

It really comes down to the cap stuff and what other options are there (and how it affects the bottom half of the roster which is obviously an issue now).

Harris will be 27 in a couple months. I'm not sure his game has any room for improvement at this point, he is what he is. I don't think he is worth a max deal.

Simmons and Embid both have room to grow. Embid is much further along, and as long as he stays healthy will be a dominant force going forward. Simmons is another story. I am really disappointed in the lack of growth over the last year. The same issues that the Celtics bottled him up with last year, the Raptors are doing this year.

He is a terrible shooter, and now appears to be scared to shoot, or scared to be aggressive in going hard to the basket because he is scared to expose his poor foul shooting. What is the point of being 6' 10" if you are not willing to do the dirty work. I'm not going to say he has poor work ethic because I honestly don't know if he is putting the necessary time to work on his shot or not.

If you commit to Butler and Harris, you are in win now mode and you can't wait for Simmons to develop a shot, so you almost have to trade him. Sure he is a great open court player, but the playoffs is half court basketball, and Simmons is a huge liability, and it may be years until he can shoot it well enough that he won't be a playoff liability. Butler and Harris might already be too old by then.
