Plus I believe we have the cap to afford re-signing Davis

Embiid, Davis and Simmons would give us one of the best trios in the league, but it would also hurt our depth and optionality even further to surround them with competent shooters etc.

But can you afford to give up Simmons if Davis isn't guaranteed to re-sign?

Davis is under contract until the end of the ‘20-‘21 season. If I understand it correctly, Simmons is under contract for one year longer. The biggest difference is luxury tax because it costs $15m or so extra per year, but that’s not my problem, I don’t care if Harris spends too much.

There is no way the Pelicans would accept a deal that didn’t involve Simmons (assuming Embid was untouchable).

Both Butler and Fultz, naturally, are on the shelf. Return would be far from maximized.

It seems that Butler has worn out his welcome in town quite fast. Am I wrong? If it's true, the trade to obtain him is a fiasco. The Sixers gave up some decent quality to get him.

Butler has not really worn out his welcome--he's trying to blend in to an established team with star-quality players with no pre-season and no practice. Now he's injured, and that's certainly not his fault. He's not beloved by fans at this point, but I'd still be patent with him.

I suppose you can't underestimate the extent to which NBA teams don't practice during the season. Making that big a change to line-up and rotation is probably a, well... process.

I didn't realize Davis had an extra year. I think that makes it harder for the Sixers to be high bidders this year. If it gets to the off-season, who knows.

I think that's a good take on Butler's situation. I think he is trying to blend in.

Unfortunately, Embiid re-injured his back in a very awkward fall after the rim blocked a running dunk attempt. Sixers played almost perfect basketball in the opening quarter, but went through an 0/15 shooting slump in the second, making it a close(r) game. Ingram had his best game as a pro. Embiid needs some sort of treatment on his back and playing is not helping him. He actually re-entered the game for a minute or so after the fall but was obviously unable to run full speed.

Embiid getting hurt is the doomsday scenario for the Sixers.

Really think the sixers need to be looking at a marc gasol. If they are able to pull a trade for him they can lighten embiids role but also allow him to miss a few games.

Willie Cauly Stein or Robin Lopez is much more realistic.

My guess is that both would be much cheaper than Gasol. I like Lopez a lot myself.

Exactly. Also, haven’t checked but I’d bet we'd have a tough time salary matching with Gasol to make a deal even possible aside from the asset cost.

Salary match would have to be Chandler, Fultz, and Smith. Way too much.

I think you are kinda dreaming of getting Gasol to be a part time player behind Embiid.

That said, either we need a backup center or we need to start using Amir Johnson again. It wont matter now much, but it will in the playoffs I fear. I love seeing a Patriot League guy succeeding in the NBA, but sadly Mike Muscala is not even laughably a NBA Center, I think Amir Johnson might just be getting "saved" for crunch time when we need a guy who can at least not be a disaster on the defensive end of the court when Embiid is on the bench or he has fallen out of Brett Brown's plans. I suspect it is probably the first.

That is a pretty big trade. Porzingis was obviously miscast in NY, he just didnt seem happy and his teammates just flat out cant compete. Now poor DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews get stuck trying to make a team by themselves. I am guessing all 3 can't wait for Free Agency
