The Rays' first two homes series are Colorado and Pittsburgh, which shouldn't be big draws. But their next homestand in mid-April is the Braves, Red Sox, and Yankees.

First Yankees series last year did not draw appreciably more or less than their home opener series against Toronto (Opening Day drew 25,000 but all the others between 18,000 and 21,000). First Red Sox series didn't top 14,000 any day.

All joking aside no matter who they play and how small their season ticket base is they are going to have issues. Playing in another state does neither their bottom line nor their fans and sponsors (no matter how small) any good. Real question is would they consistently sell out a 9,500-seat in ballpark in Orlando? I'm sure they'd sell out Clearwater or Tampa but latter wasn't mentioned.

Football stadium? You'd end up with the same challenge as London, but it can be done.

Bowden's free agent predictions for what it's worth. Big one for Soto (15/622). I actually predict fewer years and a higher AAV. He has got Tyler O'Neill at 2/32. Estevez at only 3/33 and Hoffman at a pretty reasonable 3/27. Those seem a bit low to me.

More interesting is that he has Roki Sasaki 3rd. He is only 22 so we would basically have to give him most of our international allocation. We are not one of the teams mentioned, but this is where I would ask why not? We should definitely be interested and while we do not offer the NY or LA media markets for marketing, he'll be a big deal anywhere.

With deferred money we can't be too far away. By 2030 I imagine. Might depend on how the next collective bargaining goes. I wonder if the players might limit contract length in exchange for a higher luxury tax line. Basketball and hockey have all done that. It would lead to higher AAV/shorter length contracts. If Soto actually got that $622 million but wanted to defer it like Ohtani he could get close to a billion with the same $41-$42 million AAV.

We made an offer for Yammamoto, right? I'd try going after Soto (Juan, not Greg) first and when that likely fails, Sasaki does look pretty interesting. Wheeler, Nola, Painter, Sasaki would be pretty exciting. I'm still inclined to go more for a hitter though.

He kinda said that in his article on the Freeman game, and did say Cortes was the first pitcher ever to allow 2 runs on 2 pitches in a postseason game.

Seriously, the Dodgers were the consensus best team in baseball when the season started, finished the regular season with the best record in baseball (albeit by one game over us) and from Game 4 of the NLDS against the Padres onward, pretty much dominated in the Postseason, losing only bullpen games and seemingly just toying with the Mets and Yankees whenever those two teams had a lead over them. Sometimes, the best team really does win.
