You took my comments out of context, they were in reference to drafting Smith last year, because it's hard to project ANY player at .900+ OPS, and that's what's required to take a 1B in the top of the draft.
"And that's why it's hard to get much value in a trade, because a .800 OPS on a minus fielding 1B (Joseph right now) isn't that hard to find, and no one is going to bet that Smith or Hoskins will be a .900 OPS ML player. Because that's a really high standard even for a top college or AAA ball hitter."
Yes, Hoskins had a .900+ OPS in the minors, but there's usually a dropoff in the majors.
Even with his great start, give him a year or two, he's also looked really bad on some ABs and teams are just getting film together on him.
He looks great, fundamentally the best hitter on team in the way he works an AB, but SSS are just that, no matter how shiny.
I've been a big Hoskins defender for years, but .900 OPS is a really high standard.
There are 23 ML hitters with OPS > .900 at this point in the season.
