I have seen criticism that since he isn't good as a receiver that he is a play-calling tell when in the game, but that really doesn't make a lot of sense, because he also was an elite blocking back in pass protection. The key complaint seems to be that he doesn't run as well out of shotgun and that he wasn't a good match for his new coach's scheme and the coach didn't accommodate his style. I think the Eagles will have a good work-around for this. If he is frequently used as a blocking back on passing plays, then the tell vanishes. I expect a lot of effort will be made to find ways he can sometimes be an effective receiver and can have a better shot at success running from shotgun. He is elite in yards after contact. In other words, he is a real steal and the Eagles will likely find schemes to get him back over 100 yards. Unlike Tate, he will have the whole pre-season work to get integrated into the offense.

If Doug Pederson has proven anything it is clearly that he knows how to put players in positions to succeed with what they do well and not. Sadly, just watch what happens with Nick Foles this year, he wont be the same player. Pederson isnt perfect, but what he excels at is using his players in ways that they succeed.

At the cost of a 5th or 6th round pick, this is guaranteed to be a steal if they guy can take the field. He is at least a league average RB, if not a whole lot better, you dream of getting that with a 5th or 6th round pick (not an exact comparison since we get 1 year instead of 4, but still).

I hear that the NFL changed the schedule when the Phils signed Harper, wanting to avoid possible Phillies playoff games in conflict with the Eagles games, hence the 3 straight October road games.

I doubt this is true (in fact I thought you were kidding). For one thing I doubt the NFL cares. For another the number of variables involved for there to not be a conflict - the Phillies making the playoffs, their seeding, having Sunday home games - are much larger than the possiblity that there would be a conflict (let alone three). Also much easier for the Phillies/MLB to adapt if it did happen.

Honestly I'm still not buying it. I think he was having a little fun (the NFL guy, who is in charge of broadcasting schedules, and works for NFL Films - i.e., he lives in Philadelphia!). But so many other things go into making the schedule that it would have only been a small consideration in any case.

NFL Draft starts this Thursday night. Eagles have a 1st, Two 2nds, Two 4th, a 5th and a 6th.

I believe this is an important draft for our future as we’ll lose some of our cap flexibility when we have to resign Wentz.

The Eagles sign Tim Jernigan back on a one year deal, contract info not available yet, but surely they signed him at a lower rate than the option they declined earlier. The draft starts tonight, the Eagles have the 25th pick, will they move up, or trade down or stay put? Interesting that they signed Jernigan, might mean that they would be okay taking DT Jeffery Simmons, who is top 15 talent that will fall because he will not play next year as he will be recovering from a torn ACL suffered in February.

As for the draft the Eagles currently have the following picks (before Howie starts making moves)

Round 4 (127 & 138)

OL, Edge, RB, S, strike me as the top priorities, especially with Jernigan back in the fold. The Eagles have enough chance to advance this season that I don't want to waste our #1 on an injury stash.

Yeah, I mean even beyond the ACL issue, Jeffrey Simmons did punch a woman in 2017 so all things being equal I would prefer we pass on him. Given that Peters gets injured every game, Brooks is coming off an injury, Kelce is really old and Wiz is gone, I actually think there is like a 90 percent chance that a first round OL we would take would see 50% of the offensive snaps (so any of Ford or Bradbury or Lindstrom or Williams that fall to 25 would be great). I'm very OK with an Edge guy too (if Sweat or Ferrell falls). I would prefer to use one of the 2nd rounders on the Safety.

If we take an OT I hope they start working out Mailata inside. I know he is 22 and was a 7th round pick, but I really hope we find a way to retain and play him. He is physically gifted, beyond belief, it would be great to see him play for the next 10-15 years.

My preference would be LB. I know the Andy Reid coaching tree does not see value in that position, but we are very, very week at LB with really only 1 good player and a herd of journeyman.

Best available or trade down and get a high pick next year would be my preference.

At the Athletic, for fun, Wulf predicted they would move up to 15 for FSU's Burns, giving up a second-rounder. Then he more seriously predicted they'd probably trade down and take WR Brown from Ole Miss.

Kapadia has them trading down to 41, plus a third-rounder, and taking OT Tytus Howard.

They must have really liked him and believed HOU would take him at 23. Gave up a 4th and 6th to move up 3 slots, overpaid by the “chart” but got the guy they wanted I assume.

Knowing Howie he will surely trade down sometime in the 2ns to recoup those picks. V
