Well it goes without saying that the released players weren't going to be on the 60, ditto anyone who exercises their opt-out today. There is value in just getting it over with because if you put a guy on your 60 and then he's able to opt out if he isn't guaranteed a spot on the final major league roster (to say nothing of the 40), you can't get him back. But I suppose there's also value in evaluating as many of those guys as you can while you have them, since (apparently) they can always be replaced by a minor leaguer later. Guys like Torreyes and Bethancourt are probably useful depth/bodies in the second camp location but could easily be replaced with Gamboa or Marchan down the line.
And I would think if the OF depth gets thin, you just throw Mickey Moniak into the fire rather than Mikie Mahtook.
Herrera is still an interesting one. If you can add a player who is your property at any time there is no reason to put him on the 60 now (and even if he was subject to waivers no one would take him, as already happened once). You just leave him in Miami until you either need him or want to trade him.
I imagine MLB decides when these rosters get released, but names will continue to leak out until it's official.
