Game with the Yankees ends in a 5-5 tie.
Eflin pitched better than the box score would suggest. Two of the hits he gave up were fly balls misplayed by the outfielders. One run definitely would not have scored had the ball been caught and the other run probably would not have scored either. The runs were one each in the first and second innings. He went 4.1 and did very well over the final couple innings he pitched today.
Worst part of the game for me was seeing (well not really seeing) Neris, Alvarez, and Dominguez combine to give up 3 runs in the 6th and blow a two run lead, to trail 5-4. The Phillies scored a run to tie in the top of the ninth on 2 singles and a walk. Run scored on wild pitch, although the batter went on to walk. Sadly, they could not score another that inning and left the bases loaded. In the bottom of the ninth, Beato walked the first two hitters. Yankees used sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third, but Beato got a K and then an inning ending fly out.
Harper was 0 for 2 but reached on catcher interference and later scored in his last plate appearance. He had a stolen base. Hoskins was 2 for 3, Realmuto 2 for 2 with a walk and home run, Franco 2 for 5 as the DH, Altherr 1 for 3 with RBI, and Kingery 1 for 3 with the 2 run home run.
Spring training continues and as usual, some good and some bad in the game. It's about time to get the well oiled machine running smoothly for the start of the regular season.
